During July, the diocesan Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is hosting its annual MISSION: Jersey, a longtime summer initiative that offers offering young people the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and participate in various community-based service projects.
During the week of July 12, two groups of teens were in Monmouth and Ocean Counties performing tasks such as stocking shelves, gardening, preparing food baskets and organizing donations of items to be distributed to the less fortunate.
On July 15, a group worked in social service organizations in downtown Freehold, while on July 17, another group collaborated with Seeds of Service and the St. Vincent de Paul conference in Visitation Parish, Brick. A third group of teens will be in Mercer County on July 21 where they will partner with the staff of Sacred Heart Parish, Trenton, to prepare bags of food for the parish’s food distribution program.
At the start of each MISSION: Jersey offering, the young people spend time in prayer and enjoy participating in ice breakers before setting out on their service endeavor.
