Celebrating our Elders
July 15, 2021 at 8:37 p.m.
Led by our cover image entitled “The Gift of Age,” the latest issue of The Monitor Magazine highlights the Church’s new initiative that calls for greater attention given to and in support of older persons. Our IN FOCUS section explores the first World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly proclaimed by Pope Francis, set for this year on July 25. Our special coverage includes reflections from Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.; Contributing Editor Mary Morrell, and others, and offers ideas on how to observe and support this new effort.
Other coverage you’ll want to find:
- Vocations Update – Look for reporting on what the Diocese is doing to nurture future vocations to the priesthood and provide support to seminarians.
- Young Disciples – The Diocese recognizes 18 teens with the annual St. Timothy Award. Is a teen from your parish among them?
- Life Issues – Look for reports on efforts to keep taxpayer monies from funding abortion and on Church leader’s response to temporary stop of federal executions.
- Coming Up – Information on upcoming pilgrimage; Speaker series on Natural Family Planning Awareness Week; Bishop’s Anniversary Blessings for married couples, and Joy of Love and Family Conference
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating our six Catholic Media Awards from the Catholic Press Association, recognizing our work during our first full year of publication. We share this honor with our readers, who are always on our minds as we try to share the Good News in our print and digital publications.
Please note a scheduling change … The Monitor’s annual LIVES OF FAITH keepsake issue – recognizing the special anniversaries of priests, deacons and religious – will now be published in late August.
