Our Inspiring Young Disciples
August 5, 2021 at 4:10 p.m.
The new issue of The Monitor Magazine focuses on “Young Disciples,” bringing us full circle from last month’s coverage of Grandparents and the Elderly. But the stories of our young people – participating in programs that enrich their faith and serve others – is just the latest reminder that every generation plays a part in building the Kingdom. We invite our readers to learn about these Young Disciples and to be inspired!
Our priests are the subject of Bishop David M. O’Connell’s monthly column in which he reflects on a summer gathering he hosted for his brothers. The Bishop writes: “We need one another, we belong to one another as true brothers.” We also recommend an op/ed from well-known theology teacher and writer, Hosffman Ospino, who testifies to the value of “good priests who are also good friends.”
Did you know that the Diocese of Trenton turns 140 this month? Alan Delozier, executive director of the New Jersey Catholic Historical Commission, brings us an overview of what the Church was like in 1881 when Pope Leo XIII established the new diocese, and how the faithful in central New Jersey responded. We hope you’ll build on your knowledge of the local Church by reading his special report.
Once again, ‘tis the season when parents’ attention turns to getting their children ready for school. This issue provides some early updates for the 2021-2022 school year and reports on ways that schools have used the summer months to keep students in the game. We’ll have more Back-to-School coverage in the September issue.
Here is more content to look for:
- Look back at how the Diocese observed the first World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
- IN THE PARISHES … reports from Belmar and Trenton
- SPORTS …. Red Bank Catholic pitcher signs with Kansas City Royals
- Spanish-language section, EL ANZUELO, includes a special focus on Pre-Cana
Later this month we’ll have the annual LIVES OF FAITH keepsake issue celebrating priest retirees, and clergy and religious marking notable anniversaries this year.
