In remembrance of Pope Francis
May 5, 2025 at 4:26 p.m.
Since the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday, countless news articles and photos have been circulating across media outlets and digital platforms, reporting on his life, death and legacy, as well as what comes next for the Church.
As we put the May issue of The Monitor Magazine “to bed,” we realize that we are not breaking any Pope Francis news. Instead, we curated stories to provide our readers with a keepsake of sorts, featuring some of the essential information and broad-range perspective about this historic pope and how he changed the world. We wanted something that could be tucked away once read, and brought out again when the online frenzy of Pope Francis stories had long quieted down – which will probably happen all too soon.
At the same time, we wanted to tell a unique story of how the faithful of the Diocese of Trenton connected with the Pope and how they remembered him. We encourage you to read the 10 personal reflections shared by people from all walks of life – some of whom have met the Pope and others who have been profoundly inspired by his presence, his teachings and his ministry.
Though Holy Week and Easter seem like a long way back in the rear view mirror, we have included in this issue a special photo essay, “OUR EASTER JOURNEY,” including celebrations and commemorations that unfolded in more than a dozen of our parishes this year. We encourage you to relive the beauty, solemnity and joy of this most important week in the Church year.
The special coverage on Pope Francis and the conclave has pre-empted all other local content we had planned for this issue. Much of this is now posted to TrentonMonitor.com and some of it will be available in a future issue of the magazine.
Please note . . . watch for a special issue that will come out shortly after the conclave concludes and we have a new pope!
And please know that for every article we can run in print, there are 5-10 more on TrentonMonitor.com, especially now with so much news developing in the Church. There is currently no log-in, all content is available. This is the time to check it out if you haven’t already done so.
The May print edition has been mailed to all PREMIUM SUBSCRIBERS (those who receive both the print and digital editions). Not yet getting the print edition? Upgrade now by clicking HERE or writing to [email protected]
With grateful hearts, we align our prayers with those of our readers for the peaceful repose of Pope Francis.
