Virtual catechetical training opportunities available for May, June
April 25, 2025 at 8:00 a.m.
Registration is now open for two catechetical experiences: the foundational course “The Art of Catechesis,” with its latest virtual three-night session planned for 6:30-8:30 p.m. on May 21, 28 and June 4; and the CATechist Chat formation webinar “The Art of ‘Breaking the Ice,’” from 7-8 p.m. on June 11.
Created specifically for both new and seasoned catechists to support and encourage them in the critical ministry they have undertaken, as well as those discerning becoming catechists, The Art of Catechesis aims to help define the role of a catechist and helps them to work toward a diocesan “Certificate in Catechesis.” It also acknowledges that the catechist is responding to a call of faith originating outside of themselves. More than 800 catechists have completed the Art of Catechesis since 2021.
Each two-hour online session will be taught by Lisa Ann Limongello, parish catechetical leader in St. Luke Parish, Toms River, and the linked parishes of St. James, Pennington; St. George, Titusville, and St. Alphonsus, Hopewell. Topics covered will include the role of the catechist; sources and methods for catechesis; and tools and practice.
After completing the course, catechists will be better able to prepare for classes, to engage students in the formation and learning process, to lead and guide with confidence, as well as know available resources for planning, preparation and execution. Catechists will also benefit from tools and encouragement to help inform their own faith lives.
Registration is available at https://dioceseoftrenton.org/art-of-catechesis. For questions, contact Michelle Angelo, Associate Director of Catechesis, 609-403-7174, [email protected].
The upcoming CATechist CHAT (CAT CHAT) webinar June 11 will help catechists and youth ministers to learn how to use icebreakers to engage young people, create a safe space for sharing and help leaders reach the class or group goals. The webinar will be presented by Dan Waddington, diocesan director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries.
Topics for CAT CHAT webinars have been chosen by catechists based on feedback from previous formation event evaluations. During these one-hour webinars, experts in the field provide a brief practical presentation about a specific topic in catechetical ministry. This presentation is followed by an opportunity for catechists to chat about their thoughts, ideas and questions on the topic.
