Father Daniel Houde, former priest in Asbury Park and Ewing parishes, laid to rest

Trinitarian Father Daniel Houde, who previously served in the Diocese of Trenton in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish (now Mother of Mercy Parish), Asbury Park, and Incarnation-St. James Parish, Ewing, died Oct. 11 in Opus Care Hospice, Palmetto Bay, Fla., at age 74. At the time of his death, Father Houde was the pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary-St. Richard Parish, Palmetto Bay.
Funeral services were held Oct. 16 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in Holy Rosary-St. Richard Parish, with Archbishop Thomas Wenski presiding. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Monastery, 1400 Underwood Road, Sykesville, Md., Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at New Cathedral Cemetery, Baltimore.
Father Houde was born in August 1950 in Holyoke, Mass., and grew up in St. Rose of Lima Parish, Chicopee, Mass.
He became a postulant of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and of the Captives and entered the novitiate Aug. 11, 1978, taking the title “of the Immaculate Heart.” He made solemn vows Dec. 8, 1984 in the Archdiocese of Washington’s Pastoral Center, Washington. He was ordained a deacon March 9, 1985 in the chapel of the Dominican House of Studies, Washington, and to the priesthood Sept. 27, 1987 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Asbury Park. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is now part of Mother of Mercy Parish, Asbury Park.
In addition to serving in Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Incarnation-St. James Parishes during his years of priesthood, Father Houde also ministered in parishes in Bristol, Pa., Staten Island, N.Y., Baltimore, Victoria, Tex., and his current assignment in Holy Rosary-St. Richard, Palmetto Bay, FL. He also served as a member of the provincial council and as the national director of the Trinitarian Laity.
Predeceased by his parents, Father Houde is survived by a brother, cousin and the priests and brothers of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and of the Captives.
