“A fantastic day.” That’s how Tom Mladenetz described May 16, when the Mercer County Catholic Youth Organization hosted its 24th CYO Golf Classic at the Mountain View Golf Course, Ewing.
Along with the golf classic serving as a major fundraiser for the CYO, “it is also an opportunity for us to thank an individual (or organization) who is a strong supporter of the CYO,” said Mladenetz, the organization’s executive director.

The CYO is an organization of the Diocese that provides affordable and quality educational and recreational services for youth residing in the greater Mercer County and their families. The CYO has four sites including two in Trenton, one in Yardville and one in Ewing.
This year, the CYO honored Msgr. Dennis Apoldite, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Trenton, and episcopal vicar of Mercer County for his long service as a member of the CYO board of trustees and “for all the ways in which Msgr. Dennis is constantly helping the CYO,” Mladenetz said. Every year Sacred Heart Parish hosts a number of events to benefit the two Trenton-based CYO community centers including a Christmas toy drive and a back-to-school supply drive in the fall.
Mladenetz said that there were numerous golf awards given out in the various player divisions, but the Fahey Cup is the top prize each year. The Fahey Cup is named after the late Mike Fahey, the longtime CYO auditor who died several years ago. Other winners were Ray and Tony Andrusiewicz who came in first and second place by only a single stroke.
Mladenetz said that the tournament is for golfers of all levels and ages then noted that this year’s participants included Msgr. Walter Nolan, a retired priest of the Diocese who “was one of our senior golfers” while college student, Tyler Kostin,” was the youngest participant among the 110 golfers.
At the dinner that rounded at the day, Mladenetz said there were many Sacred Heart parishioners and friends of Msgr. Apoldite who came to see him honored as the “CYO Man of the Year.
“A good time was had by all, and many people are already looking to May 2026 when the CYO will hold its 25th Golf Classic.”
