Parishes, entities, offices, apostolates and ministries that serve those in need are invited to apply for a grant from the annual Bishop George W. Ahr Endowment Fund.

The fund, that has approximately $10,000 available, was named for the seventh bishop of the Diocese and is designed to assist recipients with special projects. The $10,000 grant total comes from the annual interest accrued by the fund over the previous calendar year.

When applying for the grant, applicants should indicate the name of the project, its purpose and goal, the length of time the project will take from  start to finish, the population the project is intended to impact and how the project’s success will be measured. Once a project is completed, grant recipients are asked to submit a self-evaluation report on how the funds were utilized and how the project goals were met.

In 2023, the Bishop George W. Ahr Endowment Fund committee awarded grants to six Catholic social service agencies throughout the Diocese.

  • The Mercer County CYO directed grant funds toward programs offered at the South Broad Street and East State Street campuses.
  • The St. Vincent de Paul Conference in Christ the King Parish, Long Branch, used funds to purchase a supply of diapers for the Food Pantry Outreach.
  • The St. Vincent de Paul Conference in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Mooretown, used funds to help finance the “Experiencing God’s Creation: A Day at the Farm” offering.
  • The St. Vincent de Paul Conference in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Lakewood, directed grant funds toward providing food and financial aid to the needy.
  • The St. Vincent de Paul Conference in St. Catharine-St. Margaret Parish, Spring Lake, received money to assist the conference in their ministry.
  • Vincent’s Legacy Furniture Outreach Ministry, based in Manasquan, was given money to use toward its mission of distributing gently used furniture and household goods to people in need in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Applications may be requested by contacting Grace Magee in the diocesan Chancery and Pastoral Center, via email: mailto: [email protected]; by mail: Diocese of Trenton, P.O. Box 5147, Trenton, NJ 08638, or by logging on to dioceseoftrenton.org/ bishop-ahr-endowment-fund

Completed applications must be mailed by June 3 to: Msgr. Thomas Gervasio, Diocese of Trenton, Bishop Ahr Endowment Fund, 701 Lawrenceville Rd., Trenton, NJ 08648.
