Catechists can hone skills through Art of Catechesis program

May 5, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.

Persons wanting to help others grow in their experience of the Catholic faith can strengthen their own knowledge and skills through their participation in “The Art of Catechesis” program.

Sponsored by the diocesan Department of Catechesis, the Art of Catechesis is geared for new and seasoned catechists and is available in both English and Spanish. All catechists are expected to be engaged in catechist formation and eventually obtain a Certificate of Catechesis.

According to Michelle Angelo-Santoro, the department’s associate director, more than 630 catechists have completed the course and in doing so, they are better able to prepare for each class more effectively; engage students in the learning and formation process; more confidently lead, guide, teach and inspire; be familiar with available resources for class preparation and execution, and encourage, form and inform a catechist’s own life of faith.

In describing the program, Angelo-Santoro said that the Art of Catechesis is a total of six hours and offered in a variety of formats. All classes are offered in parishes throughout the Diocese as well as online. Topics covered are: “The Role of the Catechist;” “Sources and Methods,” and “Tools and Practice.”

Following is the schedule of sessions:
