Mike Ehrmann photoThe Diocesan Shrine of Blessed Carlo Acutis has done well in attracting visitors of all ages and walks of life ever since it was dedicated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., more than a year ago. And now that the long-awaited and much anticipated date of Blessed Carlo’s canonization to sainthood has been officially announced by the Vatican, the Shrine will surely see an increase of traffic with people coming to share in meaningful experiences of prayer, learning and worship.
In October, 2023, Bishop O’Connell dedicated the Shrine to Blessed Carlo Acutis whom he named “Diocesan Patron of Youth, Especially Those in Catholic Schools and Religious Education Programs” in St. Dominic Church, Brick. Created by pastor Father Brian Woodrow and his team of supporters, the Shrine holds the relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis obtained for the Diocese by Father Marian Kokorzycki during a pilgrimage to Italy in 2021.
Recognized the world over for his deeply spiritual life, Blessed Carlo developed a website catalogue of all Eucharistic miracles throughout history as a young teenager. Blessed Carlo died of leukemia at the age of 15 on Oct. 12, 2006, and he was beatified by Pope Francis on Oct. 10, 2020. His remains are displayed at the Church of Saint Mary Major in Assisi.
A handy schedule has been prepared with useful Information about visitations and ways in which it can be experienced. Visitors will want to note that St. Dominic Church is open during the day, seven days a week, for all to spend time in prayer or attend Daily Mass and/or Adoration.
For those who want more of a pilgrimage experience, their visit can be tailored to a particular group’s needs. Group pilgrimages of 10 or more people should make their arrangements by contacting Shrine director, Christina Armellino, at [email protected] or 732-840-1410, ext. 219.
There are also Monthly Prayer opportunities on the first Thursday of the month in which the faithful are invited to attend the 11 a.m. daily Mass in St. Joseph Chapel and then participate in recitation of the prayer for the intercession of Blessed Carlo Acutis, Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and stopping by the Shrine.
For parishes wanting to create a special event of their own, such as hosting the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis, arrangements can be made by contacting the Shrine director.

In our day and age, texting, social media and other forms of modern technology “can often replace our important in-person interactions,” observed Father Brian Woodrow, pastor of St. Dominic Parish, Brick.
“What better future saint is there to turn to today and unplug than the patron of the internet itself?” he said. “Visiting Blessed Carlo’s relics gracefully helps us to stay connected to the Eucharist by following this young saintly boy’s ‘Highway to Heaven.’”
