Inspiration is everywhere!

Inspiration is everywhere!
Inspiration is everywhere!

Rayanne Bennett

It was probably not more than a few hours after the last bus returned from the Diocesan Youth Conference the evening of Feb. 8 that the torrent of photos taken by the young attendees had made their way across social media, generating comments, shares, likes and loves. While the friendships the teens forged and the memories they made will likely stay with them for a long time, the photos and other digital content they generated will have captured their attention for only a short while, leaving them free to move on to the next big thing in this constantly changing media world.

Why then, one might ask, would we have selected the Diocesan Youth Conference, which happened nearly a month ago, to be the subject of the March COVER STORY and IN FOCUS package?

With the DYC’s theme of “Inspired,” our choice to feature this annual event that brings hundreds of young people together from across the Diocese was aimed at inspiring our readers.  The same messages, images, witness talks and service experiences that engaged the youth taking part also offer a powerful source of inspiration for all of us. It is uplifting to see that our young people are seeking a relationship with Christ, and that they exercise their faith and want to be with others who feel the same way. While they give us reason to hope for a bright future for the Church, they are also correctly told that they are the “Church of Now” for all that they bring as members of this faith community.

We hope that our readers will spend some time with the pages we have dedicated to the DYC, and then go to TrentonMonitor.com, where you will find dozens of photos and a video report on the day.

THE ARRIVAL OF LENT brings an inspiration all its own, and this issue of The Monitor Magazine again provides readers with resources for their Lenten journey.  Be sure not to miss a report on our new Lenten video series featuring priests of the Diocese, and then check it out on our websites.  We are getting some wonderful feedback on these reflections already!

Though there is far too much to mention in this 64-page magazine, we do want to call your attention to the special College Guide, pages 36-40, and our Spanish-language section, EL ANZUELO (The Hook), located on pages 42-45.

Also, you will want to read the in-depth report on the census and the Church’s efforts to encourage participation (see page 16), as well as the basic precautionary measures promoted by the Diocese in response to concerns over the coronavirus (see page 34).

This issue marks the half-year point of our new magazine format, and we are deeply grateful for all of the support and feedback we’ve received. Please keep reading and letting us know what you like and want to see in your diocesan publication. Blessings!
