What to expect at a retreat house

“Come as you are!” say the Sisters of Charity who run the Maris Stella Retreat & Conference Center, Harvey Cedars.

Indeed, that is the advice of many retreat houses in the Diocese to those who may not know what to expect from a day, weekend or weeklong retreat.

Depending on the center, retreatants can expect:

• To have a private room; married couples are often assigned one room

• private or shared bathroom

• Bedding, towels and soap provided

• hot and/or cold meals that oftentimes can meet dietary/allergy restrictions

• handicap-accessible facilities

• common living areas

“Retreatants can expect a clean, welcoming environment. There are several places of quiet within the building and on the grounds,” said Redemptorist Father Kevin O’Neil of San Alfonso Retreat House, Long Branch.
