It was a fractured fairy tale with a 50s’ musical twist.  Trenton Catholic Academy’s recent production of “Doo-Wop Wed Widing Hood” was its first all-school musical as students from sixth through 12th grade were involved in all aspects of the play.

In the show, three princes set out to “woo” Red Riding Hood, played by seventh grader Morgan Rhodes. The fairy tale would be incomplete without fairy godmother sophomore, Leslie Henry, and evil queen Stacey Labissiere, senior.

“With our drama clubs and music programs growing in both the Upper and Lower schools, we wanted to be ambitious in staging a full musical this year,” said TCA president Sister of St. Joseph Dorothy Payne.  “What a great opportunity for the younger children to learn from the high school students as they work together.  Our choreographers were also high school students.”

Lower School students comprised one-third of the cast, with many of them having leads.  In the end, Loud Prince Frank gets to woo Red Riding Hood, while the other princes find true love with her sisters.  And everyone lived happily ever after at TCA.
