From hip hop to Halloween, this summer has been packed with fun for campers in the Mercer County Catholic Youth Organization’s programs.

Youngsters had the chance to dust off their Halloween costumes and ready their candy bags for a special encore of the October occasion, sporting a wide array of outfits and disguises.

Also this summer, through a partnership with DanceSpora Inc., groups of campers had a once-aweek meeting to learn about the history of hip hop and the positive elements of the popular form of dance. Each group then performed for parents and guests a routine they spent part of the summer preparing. More than 150 kids aged 5-12 had the chance to participate.

The program was offered through the Broad Street program’s Recreational-Educational Camp, which this year received a $25,000 grant from the New Jersey Office of Faith Based Initiatives. The CYO is supported by a number of public and private funders.
