St. Andrew Parish to celebrate 130th Anniversary Sept. 12

The 130th anniversary of the founding of St. Andrew Church in Jobstown will be commemorated Sept. 12 with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. celebrated by Bishop John M. Smith in the church at 2489 Monmouth Road. A picnic will follow at Springfield Township Veteran’s Memorial Park from noon to 5 p.m.
Built in 1880 at a cost of $2,400, St. Andrew Church was dedicated Sept. 19, 1880 by Bishop M.A. Corrigan, of Newark. From 1880 to about 1920 it was a mission of Sacred Heart Parish in Mount Holly. In 1920 it became a mission of St. Mary Parish, Bordentown, until it returned to Sacred Heart Parish in 1945, where it remained until 2008 when a resident temporary administrator was assigned by Bishop Smith following the conclusion of the Northern Burlington Deanery Study.
All are welcome to attend the Mass and join in for a day of fun, food and fellowship. Tickets are $5 per person and $25 for families of five or more. For information, contact Dorothy Archer at 609-298-4339 or Pat Grouser at 609-298-3812.
