Sister Ruth Catherine Trauger, served in diocesan Office of Religious Education

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 31 in The Villa, the assisted living facility of the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, Baltimore County, for Sister Ruth Catherine Trauger who died Jan. 25.

Sister Ruth Catherine was born and raised in Trenton and was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Trenton. She joined the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart in 1946. She held a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Loyola University, Baltimore, and a master’s degree in religious studies from Manhattan College, Riverdale, N.Y. Her 65 years in ministry focused on religious education at all levels from pre-school through adult discussion groups.

She had served in parishes and at the diocesan level throughout the country including 10 years in the Trenton Diocesan Office of Religious Education from 1973 to 1983. She also served in Baltimore, Lanham and on Kent Island as well as in St. Gabriel School for the Deaf in Puerto Rico.

Another ministry in which she served was in pastoral care in the Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

In her retirement years at The Villa, Sister Ruth Catherine was active as a librarian, sacristan and conducting classes in sacred Scripture. She was also a poet and writer.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, 1001 W. Joppa Rd., Towson, MD 21204.
