Sister Mary deSecours McIntosh taught in several schools in the diocese

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 26 in McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, for Mercy Sister Mary deSecours McIntosh who died Dec. 20. She was 98.

Sister Mary deSecours was born in Philadelphia in 1914. She graduated from Red Bank Elementary School, National Park, and received her secondary education in Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill. She was awarded a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College (now University), Lakewood, in 1954.

Sister Mary deSecours entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1937 and ministered to children in intermediate and junior high school as a teacher and principal for 53 years.

In the Trenton Diocese, she served in St. Ann School, Keansburg, St. Paul School, Burlington, and St. Charles Borromeo School, Cinnaminson. In 1990, she joined the staff in Georgian Court University. She served as director of food services for 10 years, followed by another nine years of service as secretary to the food service manager. From 1999 to 2001, she volunteered at the university. In 2001, she retired to McAuley Hall Health Care Center and spent the remainder of her years in prayer.

Sister Mary deSecours is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
