Sister Mary Bush, former Stuart headmistress

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 19 in Teresian House, Albany, N.Y., for Society of the Sacred Heart Sister Mary Bush who died Nov. 10. She was 92. Sister Mary served as headmistress of Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Princeton, from 1967-1973.
Born in Ballston Spa, N.Y., Sister Mary entered the Society of the Sacred Heart community in Albany in 1947, after having worked for several years in medical social work. She made her first vows in 1950 and her final profession July 29, 1955.
Sister Mary received a bachelor of arts degree in social science with a minor in philosophy from the College of Mount St. Vincent, Riverdale, N.Y. She held master of arts degrees in medical social work from Fordham University, N.Y., and in religious studies from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. She was a long-time member of the National Council on Aging, the Thomas Merton Society and the Catholic Golden Age Association, among many others.
In addition to her tenure in Princeton, she ministered in a variety of roles in Sacred Heart schools from 1950 to 1984 in Newton, Mass.; Philadelphia; and Montreal, Canada.
Other positions she held included serving on the staff of the Washington, D.C., province, where she was director of personnel and director of pre-retirement planning, from 1973 to 1982; director of the Society of the Sacred Heart Fullness of Life Institute, from 1973 to 1985; director of gerontology conferences at The Catholic University of America Gerontology Center, from 1986 to 1991; and recruiter of senior volunteers on behalf of the senior volunteer program at Providence Hospital, from 1991 to 1994.
Burial was in the Kenwood Cemetery, Albany.
