Sister Margaret Bulfin, served in three diocesan schools

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 26 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Atlantic City, for Mercy Sister Margaret Bulfin, who died Feb. 21 in McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung. She was 84.

Sister Margaret, formerly known as Sister Mary Mechtilde, entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1943. She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, and a master’s degree in education from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.

Through the years, she ministered in the field of education in the Dioceses of Trenton, Metuchen and Camden. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in St. Mary School, Bordentown; St. Catherine School, East Keansburg, where she was also principal, and St. Paul School, Princeton.

She spent part of her retirement years in Our Lady Star of the Sea Convent, Atlantic City, before moving to McAuley Hall in 2009.

Sister Margaret is survived by a niece, a nephew, many friends and the Sisters of Mercy of the Mid-Atlantic Community.

Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, 2851 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City, N.J. 08401.
