On Nov. 12, 2024, Father Juan Daniel Peirano, pastor of St. Thomas More Parish in Manalapan, received the canonical office of Canon of the Cathedral Basilica of Ayacucho (Huamanga), Perú by the Most Reverend Salvador Piñeiro, Archbishop of Ayacucho. The news was announced Nov. 25 by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.

The title "canon" is usually awarded to a priest by a residential archbishop or bishop in recognition of dedicated service to the Church or diocese. "Honorary canons" are members of the chapter of canons of a basilica or cathedral in name but are non-residential and receive no emoluments (salary or fee). They are entitled to call themselves canon and may be invited to have a role in the administration of the basilica or cathedral.

The Basilica of Ayacucho was built by order of King Felipe III of Spain on 1672 in honor of the Blessed Mother on the Advocation of the Lady of the Snow.

"The Diocese of Trenton and St. Thomas More Parish are grateful to Archbishop Pineiro for this wonderful honor bestowed on Father Peirano," observed Bishop O'Connell.
