A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 17 in St. Lucy Chapel at Villa Walsh, Morristown, for Filippini Sister Josephine Cucuzzella who died Nov. 11. She was 92.

Born in Newark, Sister Josephine entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1934. She received the habit in 1936 and made her religious profession in 1939. She held a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Georgian Court University, Lakewood, and a master’s degree with a major in social studies and a minor in English from Columbia University, N.Y.

Sister Josephine taught upper grades in New Jersey Catholic schools that were staffed by the Filippini Sisters. In the Trenton Diocese she ministered in the Upper School of Villa Victoria Academy, Ewing. Sister Josephine retired in 1991 at the Filippini motherhouse in Morristown and in 2005, she became a resident in St. Joseph Hall Infirmary.

Sister Josephine was predeceased by her parents and two sisters. She is survived by a sister, a brother, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial was in Ave Maria Cemetery at Villa Walsh, Morristown.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Hall Infirmary, c/o Sister Betty Jean Takacs, provincial superior, 455 Western Ave., Morristown, N.J. 07960-4928.
