Sister of St. Joseph Agnes Marie Gunn, who formerly served in several positions in the Diocese of Trenton including as secretary of community relations and delegate for religious, died Oct. 19 in St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown, Pa. She was 90.

Funeral services were held Oct. 24 in St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown, Pa. Burial was in St. Joseph Villa Cemetery, Flourtown.

Born in Philadelphia in 1928, Sister Agnes entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia in 1949 and professed final vows in August 1957. She held a bachelor’s degree in English and French from Chestnut Hill College, Chestnut Hill, Pa., and a master’s degree and doctorate in English from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Her early assignments included serving in St. Bernard School, Philadelphia, in 1951, and John W. Hallahan High School, Philadelphia, for eight years from 1952 to 1960. She was an associate professor of English in Chestnut Hill College, Chestnut Hill, Pa., from 1967 to 1972; a member of the staff of St. Rose High School, Belmar, from 1972 to 1974; president of the U.S. Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph from 1974 to 1984; an adjunct professor in St. Joseph University, Philadelphia, from 1984 to 1985; delegate for religious in the Archdiocese of Washington, from 1985 to 1991; coordinator of vocations to religious life in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, from 1991 to 1994, where she served as a vocation guidance counselor; maintained contact with more than 70 congregations of women and men regarding collaborative programs; acted as liaison with area colleges, adult groups and offices; developed and facilitated vocation awareness days in secondary  schools and parish settings, and presented monthly retreat days for women.

In 1994, Sister Agnes returned to the Diocese of Trenton where she held various assignments. She was an immigration counselor for the diocesan Office of Migration and Refugee Services and associate director of the Millennium Office before she was named delegate for religious on Dec. 4, 1997, and then the following year was appointed secretary for community relations on May 1, 1998. She retired from the Diocese in 2002.

Sister Agnes was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Agnes (Culliney) Gunn, and brother Ernest.  She is survived by a nephew, grand-nieces, grandnephews and members of her community in the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill.
