July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
With October designated as Respect Life Month and Respect Life Sunday celebrated Oct. 2, the value and beauty of human life are being recognized through various Life Chain and 40 Days for Life demonstrations throughout the Diocese of Trenton.
September 29th began a 40 Days for Life campaign in Cherry Hill by the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants, N.J. The group was visited by the national organization, 40 Days United Bus Tour; Steve Karlen, director of the North American Campaigns, talked with the 25 prayer warriors who attended despite the rain. The United Bus Tour will visit 50 states in 40 days – the largest since it began in 2004. Running through Nov. 6, the global campaign will include 367 cities.
Those interested in taking part may join the 40 Days for Life in peaceful prayer from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at the Cherry Hill Women’s Center, 502 N. Kings Highway in Cherry Hill. Contact Claire at [email protected] for more information and to sign up.
On Oct. 2 the 2016 Mercer County Life Chain took place, beginning at the intersection of White Horse-Mercerville and Kuser roads in Hamilton. Some participants also formed a “mini Life Chain” about a half mile away in front of the abortion facility on Kuser Road. Opening and closing prayers were offered by Pastor Douglas Mindek of Edinburg Road Chapel and Father Michael McClane, pastor of St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square.
Nearly 70 participants represented 14 Catholic and Protestant churches, Mercer County Right to Life, Pro-Life Educators of America, Knights of Columbus and Council on the American Family.
“We received many supportive thumbs ups and friendly horn honks from passing motorists,” said Mercer Life Chain Coordinator Bob Pawson.
St. Vincent de Paul parishioner John Muka said, “Life Chain is a great way for people to exercise those unique rights to free speech and freedom of religion we enjoy.”
All are welcome to witness with Mercer Life Chain Oct. 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Planned Parenthood, 347 East State St., Trenton, with a prayer vigil and Jericho March to mourn Planned Parenthood’s 100th year. For more information, contact Bob Pawson via Facebook, or e-mail, [email protected].
About 60 people lined up along Rt. 9 near St. Veronica Church, Howell, for its 26th annual Life Chain Oct. 2. St. Veronica parishioners were joined by people from St. Joseph Parish, Toms River; St. Monica Parish, Jackson; St. Rose of Lima Parish, Freehold; and St. Mary Parish, Colts Neck. St. Veronica pastor, Father Vincent Euk, and parochial vicar Father Vicente Magdaraog, both participated; St. Veronica Deacon John Franey led the opening prayer for the Life Chain in the church’s narthex.
“It has always been my firm conviction that this witnessing and praying does make a difference and does save lives,” said Hubert Mador, St. Veronica parishioner.
