A warm spring morning in April of 1994 brought into the world an 8 lb. baby boy in a rural town in El Salvador. The boy’s mother was only 15 years old and considered a person of the streets. The child was given over to a lawyer to find a good home for him as the girl was unable to take care of the baby. After 2 ½ years, a fungus disease and severe ear infections, the boy was brought to his new home and family in the United States. The boy grew strong and smart and is now in college studying Modern Languages and International Business. One of his dreams is to help better an orphanage in El Salvador.
An icy cold night in February of 1995 heard the screams of a homeless woman in Russia as she gave birth to a son of 6 lbs. The woman, after the birth, got out of her hospital bed and left without her son. After 3 years and suffering from institutionalization where it was thought the boy would be small and sickly, the boy was welcomed into his new family in the United States. He is now in college and playing baseball. He is strong and healthy.
In October of 1999, a teenage girl in Texas gave birth to a daughter of 7 lbs. She had decided months earlier to give her child over to adoption as she longed for more for her child. Five days after her birth the girl was picked up by her family and is now an honor student in the 8th grade.
In each situation, the women decided that life for the child they had conceived was better than “getting rid of “the situation that each had gotten into. There are many families that would do anything to have a child and would make the child’s life one of health, happiness and love. I cannot think of a better reason to choose life over the alternative choice and I am personally glad that all of the women mentioned above made the choice of life because I would not be here and neither would my brothers.
