A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 11 in McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, for Mercy Sister Doris Kelly who died April 9. She was 88.

Born in Trenton, Sister Doris received her education in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral Grammar School and Cathedral High School, both in Trenton. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1944.

Sister Doris earned a bachelor’s degree in art from Georgian Court University, Lakewood, and attended the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., to study fine arts.

Sister Doris served in the ministry of education and taught in schools in the Dioceses of Trenton, Camden and Metuchen. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral School; St. James School, Red Bank; Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville; Red Bank Catholic High School; and St. Ann School, Keansburg.

Sister Doris is survived by her cousin, Mary Enyart of Red Bank; a longtime friend, Claire Mullen; and members of the Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community.

Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.

Memorial donations may be made to Sisters of Mercy Mid-Atlantic Community, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, N.J. 07069.
