Matthew Colannino's essay

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

As stated in the Bible, “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”  Life is a precious gift given to us by God. Everyone is created as a masterpiece of God and should be treated with respect and dignity. Being kind to others and treating people with respect are essential in building a beautiful world. No matter how young or how old, every life deserves respect and care. As an artist takes all his time and effort to create his masterpiece, so did God when he created all of us. We must respect his creations and treat everyone as a treasured work of art.

In my own life, I have been raised to follow the teachings of God and treat others with care and respect. I have been taught that life is precious from the minute someone is born to the day they die. In my family, I have many young cousins and elderly grandparents. I have begun to realize the value of life even more over the past few years. I have watched my great grandmother who is 94 years old grow older. I have seen her go from walking to being in a wheelchair. I have also seen her go from caring for herself to being cared for by a nurse. Through all of this, it doesn’t change how valuable she is to me. I continue to learn from her through her stories of her younger years. Her life does not mean any less to me because she is old. Her life actually means more to me as she gets older. I enjoy spending time with her and realize I can learn a lot from being with her. I think more people should show respect and love for the lives of the elderly as we can all learn so much from them. Older people have been living God’s word longer, so they can share a lot of knowledge.

Everyone is created in the image of God. If we hurt a person and don’t respect a person’s life, we are directly hurting God.  God did not create people for others to hurt them. He created us to show care and love for everyone. I will always live my life respecting others everyday no matter how old or how young a person is. I love God so; therefore, I love anything he has created.
