Matteo Buser's essay

What is a masterpiece?  The word is defined as “an artist’s best piece of work.” According to the famous artist Barry Leighton-Jones, the value of a masterpiece is determined by several factors. The most important of these are rarity, originality, quality and the energy used to create it. As children of God and created by Him, we can all be considered masterpieces.

When God created us, He made us all unique and special.  People around the world are different colors, sizes, and shapes.  Even identical twins have differences between them.  We are rare because there is no one else in the world that is exactly like us.  Our originality makes us all remarkable.

As God’s sons and daughters, we are His masterpieces because we all possess the ability to be like Jesus. Giving to the poor, caring for the elderly, comforting the sick, and helping our parents are qualities that make us better Catholics. In Catholic school, our teachers emphasize the importance of good values and make sure that our actions follow them.

Since God was the artist, we know that He spent a lot of time and energy to create us in His image. God put a great deal of thought into modeling us. He gave us all the gifts of love, intelligence free will and compassion. In creating us, he gave his full effort to make sure we had everything we need to live as good Christians.

Each of us is truly a masterpiece of God. We have all of the characteristics that define an artist’s greatest work: rarity, originality, quality, and the energy used to create it. It is clear that God sculpted us so we can be His most treasured accomplishment.
