Father G. Scott Shaffer, pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Toms River, was principal celebrant of a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, Mount Holly, Jan. 6 for his mother, Joan M. Shaffer, who died Jan. 1 in her Jackson residence.

Mrs. Shaffer was born in Riverside and lived there until she married her husband, George, and moved to Mount Holly and joined Sacred Heart Parish. She was active in the school PTA and enjoyed numerous hobbies and interests.

Mrs. Shaffer was predeceased by her parents, John and Pauline Heether; a brother, Lawrence; her husband, George, who died in 2012, and a son, John, who died in October. 

In addition to Father Shaffer, Mrs. Shaffer is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Bob) Woodington of Millstone Township; her daughter-in-law, Karen Shaffer of Millstone Township, and a son, Roger (Mary) of Oakland; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, Bob Heether, and a sister, Janet (Tom) Dickinson.

Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery, Riverside.

Memorial donations may be made to the John Shaffer Scholarship Fund, c/o Trenton Catholic Academy, 175 Leonard Ave., Hamilton, NJ, 08610, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
