Funeral arrangements for Msgr. Henry Bogdan

Bishop John M. Smith will be principal celebrant of a Mass of Christian Burial July 23 at 11 a.m. in St. Hedwig Church, 872 Brunswick Ave., Trenton, for Msgr. Henry S. Bogdan.
Msgr. Bogdan, a priest of the Diocese of Trenton for 62 years, died July 18 in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton. He was 86.
Calling hours will precede the funeral Mass from 9 to 10:45 a.m. in the church.
A Mass of Jesus the High Priest was to be celebrated in Corpus Christi Church, Willingboro, where Msgr. Bogdan had served as pastor for 27 years. Father Stanley P. Lukaszewski, pastor of St. Denis Parish, Manasquan, and former pastor and parochial vicar of Corpus Christi Parish, was principal celebrant of the Mass and homilist.
Msgr. Bogdan was born Aug. 24, 1923 in Trenton. He grew up in St. Hedwig Parish and attended the parish grammar school. He is also a graduate of Trenton Catholic Boys High School.
Msgr. Bogdan prepared for the priesthood in SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, Orchard Lake, Mich., and was ordained a priest March 13, 1948, in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton, by Bishop Bartholomew J. Eustace.
As an associate pastor, Msgr. Bogdan served in St. Mary Parish, South River, 1948 to 1955; Holy Cross Parish, Trenton, 1955 to 1961; St. Stephen Parish, Perth Amboy, 1961 to 1966, and Holy Family Parish, Carteret, where he also served as administrator from 1966 to 1968.
On Oct. 10, 1968, Msgr. Bogdan was named pastor of Corpus Christi Parish, Willingboro, where he served for 27 years until his retirement in 1994. He then took up residence in Incarnation Parish, Ewing, and remained there until 2005 when he moved to Villa Vianney, Lawrenceville, the diocesan residential facility for retired priests.
Other positions Msgr. Bogdan has held include serving as a member of an advisory committee to The Monitor; Middlesex County, Amboy section director of Catholic Relief Services, NCWC; Burlington County director of CCD, the Diocesan Building Commission and the Diocesan Budget Commission.
Msgr. Bogdan was named a Prelate of Honor of His Holiness by Pope John Paul I Sept. 19, 1978. He was invested Dec. 17, 1978.
In retirement, Msgr. Bogdan, kept active with a schedule that permitted him to spend time with his family, his siblings and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. On weekends, he helped out with Masses in St. George Parish, Titusville; Holy Cross Church, which is now part of Divine Mercy Parish, Trenton, and his native St. Hedwig Church.
Msgr. Bogdan is survived by a brother, Dr. Arthur R. Bogdan and his wife, Helen Marie, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
Burial will be in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Cedar Lane, Trenton.
