Festival choir seeks vocalists

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

The diocese has issued an open call for vocalists to audition for the Diocesan Festival Choir, which provides the musical liturgy for all major diocesan events throughout the year.

Vocalists in all four voices  (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), who are 18 years of age or older are welcome to attend the choir’s first meetings on Sept. 9 and 16 and audition.  The meetings are held in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Freehold.  Candidates should have experience singing sacred music in the Catholic tradition, and be able to read music.  Membership in the choir is on a volunteer basis.

Directed by Shawn Mack, the Diocesan Festival Choir sings for such celebrations as the priest and deacon ordinations, the Chrism Mass, the Rite of Election and this year, the diocesan pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.   Most of the events take place in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in Trenton.

The choir meets every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning in September and continuing through May.

Interested vocalists are encouraged to write to [email protected]  for more information and to arrange for an audition.
