Trinitarian Father Daniel Houde, pastor of Incarnation-St. James Parish, Ewing, was to be principal celebrant of a Mass of Christian Burial July 24 at 10 a.m. in Incarnation Church for Timothy Richard Rivella, who died July 17. He was 24.
Mr. Rivella was the grandson of Deacon Thomas H. and Angela Rivella of Incarnation-St. James Parish.
According to local news reports, Mr. Rivella died as a result of a gunshot wound he sustained during a conflict on the grounds of his apartment complex in Ewing. Authorities say the dispute over a parking space allegedly triggered the deadly shooting that led to a more than seven-hour standoff. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against Wayne Voorhees, 50, who was accused of shooting Rivella at the apartment complex where they both lived.
Authorities reported that Voorhees held police at bay for nearly eight hours from inside an apartment. State police stormed the unit and found Voorhees with a self-inflicted wound to the head. As of press time, Voorhees remained hospitalized in serious condition.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the news reports said.
Mr. Rivella was born in Trenton and was a lifelong resident. He worked as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 269. At Incarnation-St. James Parish, he served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.
In addition to his paternal grandparents, Mr. Rivella is survived by his mother, Angela Dorsey Jackson of Pensacola, Fla.; his father, David T. Rivella of Morrisville, Pa.; two brothers; one sister, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Burial was to be in Ewing Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Incarnation-St. James Parish, 1545 Pennington Rd., Ewing, N.J. 08618.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of M. William Murphy Funeral Home, Ewing.
