'Don't Stop Believin'....in the Holy Spirit

The retreat provided the candidates with the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and concluded with a Mass celebrated by Father Michael Manning, pastor of Holy Cross Parish. The retreat team served as readers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion and ushers, and families of the candidates were invited to join in the celebration.

It was the first year that the high school student leaders were part of the planning and facilitating process. The teens that stepped up and volunteered their time spent weeks working with Sallie Kabash, the parish director of religious education, and Patricia Graham, school principal.

The team – made up of Michael Bagnell, Stephen Brennan, Ciara Cornette, Jimmy Dengler, Isabella Mazzucca and Emily Velcamp – selected a retreat theme and song, created a banner and prepared the various talks and activities for the Confirmation candidates. The discussions centered on how the gifts of the Holy Spirit have influenced their lives, and each leader chose an individual song and activity to reinforce their message.

The team was assisted by four of their peers - Bernadette Hogan, Kelly Koerwer, Katie Mattina and Stephanie Szakats – who led small group discussions centered on the presentations.
