St. Joseph School, Toms River, opened Catholic Schools Week during the noon Mass held Jan. 27. Father Scott Shaffer, pastor, celebrated the Mass.

The Mass was colorful as students, faculty, staff, the PTA and school boards joined in a procession during which they carried their classroom banners. After Holy Communion, members of the National Junior Honor Society shared their story and reflected on their experiences in St. Joseph Grade School. Following the Mass, families were invited to visit the school classrooms, where they had the opportunity to view the Invention Convention and Exposition in which some 600 student inventions were on display.

Students had an opportunity to express their understanding of the Church’s teaching on the sanctity of life through an art and essay contest, and school judges also selected essays and artwork to be submitted for the Diocese of Trenton Respect Life Annual Poster and Essay Contest.

Movie Day and Teacher Appreciation Day rounded out the week’s activities.
