In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the following events have been announced:

Mercer County
St. David the King Parish, West Windsor, following the 11:30 a.m. Mass, a wall that has the names inscribed of the three parishioners who perished in the attacks as well as the names of nine relatives of parishioners, will be dedicated. The wall is constructed of tile that was retrieved from one of the World Trade Center tower buildings.

Monmouth County
St. Clement Parish, Matawan, will hold a 9/11 Memorial Mass Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. in the church at 172 Freneau Avenue.  A blessing of the Sept. 11th Memorial Monument erected in 2002 on the parish grounds in memory of the six parishioners killed on 9/11 will immediately follow the Mass.  For information, contact Sean McNamara at 732-580-7234 or [email protected].

St. Robert Bellarmine, Freehold, will commemorate 9/11 with several displays located in its church at 61 Georgia Road.  The baptismal fount will have the New York Times Book of Names displayed with the paschal candle as a reminder that life is changed not ended. In the Gathering area there will be a space for quiet reflection with a presentation of photographs and music will be played before and after Mass.  None of the photographs focus on the destruction, but on images of hope and healing. The desire for this video presentation is to remember and not re-live a day none of us can forget.  At the 10a.m. Mass a piper will play the pipes as people gather for Mass, he will also play the Communion meditation, and as people leave Church. San Alfonso Retreat House, Long Branch, will hold a 9/11 memorial Holy Hour Sept. 10, 6 p.m., on the grounds behind the center. The service will include a bag-piper and an honor guard of police and fire personnel. The event is open to the public and, in the event of rain, will move inside the retreat house.

St. Mary Parish, New Monmouth, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., invites the faithful of the diocese to join him for the celebration of the noon Mass, Sept. 11, Mary, Mother of God Church, 19 Cherry Tree Road.

Following the Mass, a blessing of a memorial dedicated to the terrorist attack victims, located on the parish grounds. For information, call 732-671-0071.

St. Benedict Parish, Holmdel, will remember all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and those who assisted in the relief effort, at all weekend Masses in the church at 165 Bethany Road Sept. 10, 5 p.m., Sept. 11, 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Following the 12:30 p.m. Mass Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will commence providing time for silent prayer through the afternoon.  Adoration will conclude with Benediction at 6 p.m. For information, call 732-264-4712.

St. Joseph Parish, Keyport, will host a 911 Interfaith Memorial Service Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. in the church at 376 Maple Place to honor those who died, those whose lives changed forever and those who unselfishly served. The Mass will consist of prayer, reflection, singing and remembering. All are welcome. For information, call 732-264-0322.

Outside the Diocese
Church of St. Francis of Assisi, New York, will hold the 10th annual Hope tribute to FDNY Franciscan Father Mychal F. Judge and all those lost on 9/11, Sept. 4 in the church at 135 W. 31st Street, 9 a.m. The Rosary will be followed by Mass and a walk that begins at 10:15 a.m. at FDNY E-1/L-24, concluding at 1:30 p.m. at FDNY E-10/L-10 with brief dedication ceremony.

Along the walking route to Ground Zero, stops will be made at firehouses and police precincts in remembrance and reflection of all those lost and those left to carry on.
