Chaplains honored during Pastoral Care Week

More than 20 chaplains of all faiths gathered Oct. 26 in the Chancery, Lawrenceville, for a luncheon given in appreciation for the work they do in hospitals and prisons across the Diocese of Trenton’s four counties. The event is held annually in conjunction with Pastoral Care Week, Oct. 22-28, the theme of which this year was “Hospitality: Cultivating Inclusion.”
Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., and Deanna Sass, director of pastoral care, welcomed the guests and expressed their gratitude for the chaplains’ ministry. Sass also introduced the new ministry coordinators in her department, Deacon Bill Gallagher, jail and prison, and Rachel Hendricks, Respect Life, who each spoke of how the week’s theme comes to fruition in their work throughout the year.
“The chaplains who serve the people in our diocesan health care and penal institutions provide care 24/7/365,” Sass said. “We are pleased to take one day of the year to spoil them a bit, to say ‘thank you’ for all that they do, and to honor them during Pastoral Care Week.”
Chaplains in attendance included those who minister in LIFE-St. Francis Medical Center, Bordentown; Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, Hamilton; Capital Health Medical Center, Hopewell; Children’s Specialized Hospital, Toms River; Central Reception and Assignment Facility and Jones Farm, Ewing; Ann Klein Forensic Center, Trenton; Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, and University Medical Center of Princeton, Plainsboro.
