Catechetical workshop will focus on adolescent psychology

Adolescent Psychological and Spiritual Development will serve as the theme of a formation day for all who serve in catechetical ministry Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in St. William the Abbot Parish, Howell.
Sponsored by the diocesan Ministry of Catechesis and Evangelization, the day is open to those who work with the religious formation of adolescents, including pastors and parochial vicars, deacons, directors, coordinators and administrators of religious education, catechists, secretaries, pastoral associates and Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults team members. Topics to be addressed include adolescent psychological and spiritual development with an emphasis on the importance of identity formation; the spiritual development of adolescents, and what can be done to aid adolescents in their spiritual development.
Workshop presenter will be Sister of Mercy of Alma Mary Patrice Ahearn. Sister Mary Patrice recently graduated with a doctorate in clinical psychology from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, Arlington, Va. IPS is a Catholic graduate school that specializes in the integration of the study of philosophy and theology with psychology. After completing her internship in Catholic Social Services in Lincoln, Neb., Sister Mary Patrice will continue her post-doctoral training at Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital, Tulsa, Okla.
