Author to discuss book on Mississippi civil rights in Lawrenceville church

The Interfaith Caregivers of Greater Mercer County will host a book signing and discussion of the book “Smoke Over Mississippi: A Journey of Hope and Reconciliation” with author Rev. Dr. Oren Renick in the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville April 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The discussion will explore “Freedom Summer 1964,” the civil rights campaign to register as many black voters in Mississippi as possible. The evening will be moderated by Rev. Jeffrey Vamos of the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville and Rev. Dr. Darrell Larue Armstrong of Shiloh Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Renick will share his motivation to write the book which tells the story of his mentor, Dr. William Penn Davis.

Copies of “Smoke Over Mississippi” will be available for purchase and the author will sign all copies. Light refreshments will be served.
