Registration is now open for the 2018 Diocesan Youth Conference, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, for teens in eighth through 12th grades.

“DYC invites teens to encounter Jesus through a joyful celebration of our Catholic faith and the opportunity to connect with other young Catholics beyond their parish or school,” said Dan Waddington, diocesan director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries.

The 2018 DYC theme, “Fearless 365,” will be explored throughout the day during talks by Catholic evangelists Oscar Rivera and Brother Pierre Toussaint, CFR. Youth will also participate in Adoration, praise and worship, breakout sessions, Sacrament of Reconciliation, Eucharistic Procession and Benediction. The day will conclude with Mass celebrated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.

“Fearless 365” is a nod to the 365 times in the Bible that the phrase “be not afraid” is used. Pope Francis reminded youth of the need to be fearless during World Youth Day 2013: “When we go to proclaim Christ, it is He Himself who goes before and guides us. When He sent his disciples on mission, He promised, ‘I am with you always’ (Mt 28:20). And this is also true for us! Jesus does not leave us alone, He never leaves you alone! He always accompanies you.”

Participants can register until Feb. 7 for $25 at www.DOTYouth.org. “Walk-in” registration Feb. 8-10 is $35.

Rivera, a.k.a. “Two Ten,” grew up in inner-city Waterbury, Conn., learning at an early age to be a survivor. Using the art of hip hop, he avoided the streets and enforced his passion for the faith. Graduating in 2010 from Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio, Rivera earned a master of arts degree in theology in 2015 from Saint Leo University, St. Leo, Fla. Using music and personal testimony, his message focuses on hope in times of despair, love during times of hate and faithfully following God no matter the obstacles.

Brother Toussaint is a deacon of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, currently attending St. Joseph Seminary, New York; he is currently on track to be ordained a priest in May. He grew up in Freeport, Long Island, ultimately attending Ave Maria University, Naples, Fla., where he experienced a conversion. After a profound experience of God’s love beginning with prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, he decided to contact the Friars of the Renewal. Following ordination, Brother Toussaint’s goal is to bring others to the same experience of being known and loved by God.
