Catholic school supporters, including educators, administrators and members of school Parent-Teacher Associations from around the Diocese gathered for the 101st Annual Conference of the Trenton Diocesan Council of Parent Teacher Associations Oct. 10 in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral, Freehold.
The morning began with a Mass celebrated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., and was followed by a breakfast meeting in the parish hall. During the meeting, participants witnessed the installation of the new diocesan PTA board members, heard a keynote address by Megan Faulkner, who serves as executive pastor of St. Paul’s Ocean Grove Church, and looked on as awards were presented to students who participated in the fifth annual Diocesan PTA Scholarship Contest.

In his homily, Bishop O’Connell reflected on the mission of Catholic schools which “are trying to help form young people who know Jesus Christ, who love him, who recognize his presence in their lives and who learn to live according to his Gospel.”
“We are trying to form disciples,” Bishop O’Connell said. “When our children walk through the doors of our Catholic schools each morning, we want them to understand that before they are students, athletes, musicians, actors, classmates or friends, they are children of God.”
“They have been clothed with Christ, and that identity should make a difference in the way they live,” he said.
