“Every parish feast day is an opportunity not only to honor a title but to reflect on the mystery that title reveals,” Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., said during a June 20 Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Riverton. “Today, the Sacred Heart of Jesus reminds us of the deepest truth of our faith: God loves us with a personal, faithful and enduring love. That message is especially important in our world today.”

Bishop’s visit to Riverton marked the fourth and last Mass he celebrated as part of a diocesan commemoration of the Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. His previous visits included Sacred Heart, Mount Holly, on May 31; Sacred Heart, Bay Head, on June 7, and Sacred Heart, Trenton, on June 14.
Each Mass included the Bishop leading the congregations in reciting the Prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart.
In his homily at the Riverton Mass, the Bishop reflected on the Gospel noting that three times “Jesus tells his disciples not to be afraid.”
“Jesus knew that his followers would face opposition and hardship. Yet, he reminds them that God’s care is constant and personal.”
