Sister Christina Aldarelli, former religious education director in Diocese, dies at 89

Funeral services will be held Jan. 20 in Our Lady of Peace Residence, 1510 University Ave., Dunmore, Pa., for Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Christina Aldarelli who died Jan. 28 in Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, Pa. She was 89.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at which time a prayer service will be held. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11.

Born in 1936 in Long Branch, Sister Christina entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sept. 7, 1954; made temporary profession of vows Aug. 3, 1957, and final profession of vows Aug. 3, 1960. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and a master of arts in reading education, both from Marywood College, Scranton, Pa.

Sister Christina was a Catholic School teacher and principal in schools in Oregon, Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina. She was also director of religious education in several parishes in the Diocese of Trenton including St. James, Pennington, 1994-2001; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Asbury Park, 2001-2012, and St. Ann, Keansburg, 2013-2014.

She also served as a chaplain in Clarks Summit State Hospital, Clarks Summit, Pa., and as a member of the support staff at the IHM Center in Scranton.

Sister Christina was predeceased by her parents and brother. She is survived by a brother, Ralph, of Asbury Park; two sisters, Ursula Fornicola and Frances Giacone, both of Ocean, and many nieces, nephews and members of the IHM congregation.

Burial will follow the funeral Mass in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to support the retired Sisters of IHM, c/o the Sisters of IHM Retirement Fund, IHM Center, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18509.
