O'Connell, C.M., was among the bishops to attend the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Pedro Bismarck Chau Sept. 8 in Sacred Heart Basilica Newark. Cardinal Joseph Tobin of the Newark Archdiocese presided over the Ordination Rite and was principal celebrant of the Mass. Bishop Chau is an Auxiliary Bishop of the archdiocese.
Along with Bishop O'Connell, other priests from the Trenton Diocese who attended the Ordination were Father Jean Felicien, Bishop O'Connell's secretary, and Father Christopher Dayton, pastor of St. Paul Parish, Princeton.
