With an aim to encourage tangible support for pregnant women in need, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ committee on Pro-Life Activities released a new promotional video in May.
In announcing the release of the video, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., stated, “The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and our diocese have joined together in a nationwide effort called ‘Walking with Moms in Need.’ For this initiative, the USCCB has provided educational, pastoral, prayer and action-oriented resources to help parishes walk alongside and accompany pregnant and parenting mothers facing difficulties. This new video supports these efforts.”
He continued, “This new video was developed to help inspire the faithful to embrace the mission of ‘Walking with Moms in Need.’ in their parishes and dioceses. I hope these testimonies will serve as a helpful resource in our parishes.”
The video, “Empowering Parishioners to Serve,” can be viewed below or HERE at YouTube.com > USCCB Secretariat for Pro-life Activities, and includes testimonials from participants in the Diocese of Charlotte, N.C. A version of the video with Spanish subtitles will be posted soon. Additional video resources are also available at www.walkingwithmoms.com/videos
"The Catholic Church is the strongest voice for the culture of life,” said Melissa Scanlon, a video participant from the Diocese of Charlotte. “The vision of our bishops through the USCCB for "Walking with Moms in Need" was to create a better network through the Catholic Church for pregnant and parenting women in our community."
"'Walking with Moms in Need' puts the Gospel of Life into action,” said Father Peter Ascik, priest in the Diocese of Charlotte, N.C., on the video. "It's specifically designed to draw on the gifts, the talents and the generosity of lay men and women ... I think if every parish responds in some way to this call, it will really change the culture."
