Peace be with you all!

May 15, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

Minutes after his introduction as the 266th Successor of Peter on May 8, Pope Leo XIV extended the Lord’s peace in his first blessing to a rejoicing world.  Described as a “Citizen of the World,” the first Augustinian and the first American to assume the papacy has signaled his desire to be guided by the legacy of Pope Francis, Pope Leo XIII and St. Augustine, among others.

In this KEEPSAKE ISSUE of The Monitor Magazine, we’ve assembled a collection of articles that tell the story of this “Pope of Firsts” – a story that is both singularly unique and familiar at the same time.  We invite readers to get to know our new Holy Father through the pages of this special edition.

Because a part of that story can be told through the words of others, we call your attention to the response of Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., to last week’s momentous news and the different ways that he has helped to spread the word and celebrate the Church’s new leader. We’ve also featured reactions from the diocesan family to the news of Pope Leo’s election and shared a few special stories on how he has connected with some who call the Diocese of Trenton home.

A reminder …  for every article we have included in this special issue, there are many more about Pope Leo on TrentonMonitor.com. There is currently no required log-in, all content is available.  This is the time to check it out if you haven’t already done so.

ALSO, please note a change in our publication schedule.  To accommodate this special papal issue, we have consolidated the regular June issue and the GRADUATION issue into a combined edition that will come out in mid-June.  Please watch for what promises to be a celebration of the priestly Ordination of Rev. Mr. Alan Bridges and the milestone reached by the Class of 2025 as they graduate from Catholic schools in the Diocese.

The print edition of this KEEPSAKE ON POPE LEO XIV has been sent to our subscribers. Not yet a subscriber? Sign up today safely and conveniently by clicking HERE or writing to [email protected].  Or call our Business Desk at (609) 403-7169 for assistance.

Please join us in praying that God will bless Pope Leo and this hopeful new chapter in the life of the Church.
