For Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., day three of Catholic Schools Week took him to St. Ann School, Lawrenceville, bright and early the morning of Jan. 28 where he joined students, faculty and school staff in participating in a flag-raising ceremony and recognition of community leaders.
Among the guests invited for the occasion were Lawrence Township Mayor Patricia Hendricks Farmer, members of the Lawrence Township Police Department and the Slackwood Fire Department as well as staff from the diocesan Department of Catholic Schools.
“I am so grateful to you all for the invitation to come see you today. This is Catholic Schools Week – a very special week. And you’re so lucky to go to a Catholic school because not only do we learn history and math and English, we learn about our faith and our God, who created us and loves us so much,” Bishop O’Connell said.
After the flag-raising ceremony, Bishop O’Connell joined community members for breakfast, where he thanked them for their continued support.
Catholic Schools Week 2025 runs Jan. 26-Feb. 1 and is a time for Catholic school communities from around the country to celebrate all that a Catholic education has to offer. During the week, a variety of events are held based on a schedule of themes. There are also a lot of fun activities offered including pep rallies, socials and dress-down days where proceeds benefit a particular cause.
Bishop O’Connell began Catholic Schools Week with a Jan. 26 visit to Our Lady of Sorrows School, Hamilton, followed by a Jan. 27 visit to St. Paul School, Princeton. In both locations he celebrated Masses and toured the school campuses. For the remainder of the week, the Bishop is scheduled to visit schools in Monmouth and Burlington Counties.
