Deacon Sabados, served in Hamilton Square parish

Deacon Andrew Anthony Sabados Sr., who formerly ministered in St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square, died June 17 in Kernersville, N.C. He was 81.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 22 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church,  High Point, N.C. Burial followed at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory, Kernersville, NC.

Born in 1942 in Pottsville, Pa., Deacon Sabados resided in Hamilton Square for 60 years and was a member of St. Gregory the Great Parish since 1967. 

A graduate of Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), Deacon Sabados served in the United States Air Force followed by employment with Coca-Cola Foods for more than 30 years as the Northeast Quality Assurance Manager. He was ordained a deacon in May of 1998 by Bishop John M. Smith in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton. Along with his diaconate duties, he was active in St. Gregory the Great Parish’s Holy Name Society, Third Degree Council, Knights of Columbus, parish council, bereavement ministry, nursing home services, adult leader for the youth group and the carnival. 

He and his wife, Grace Ann, relocated to North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, Deacon Sabados was predeceased by two siblings. In addition to Grace Ann, his wife of 62 years, Deacon Sabados is survived by his children, Lisa Ann (Jeff) Caruso; Michaelene Greenly (David) Poston, and Andrew Sabados Jr.; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers; a sister, and numerous friends and extended family. 

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont at 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
