The first of two memorial Masses was celebrated for Msgr. Sean Flynn, a retired priest of the Diocese of Trenton, who died Nov. 24 in his native Ireland. He was 75.

Bishop David M. O'Connell, C.M., was principal celebrant of the Dec. 18 Mass in St. Mark Church, Sea Girt, where Msgr. Flynn had served as pastor from 2008 until 2023 when he retired. Some 20 priests concelebrated the Mass with the Bishop before a congregation that assembled in the Sea Girt church. Homilist was Father Martin O'Reilly, pastor of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, Bordentown, and episcopal vicar of Burlington County, who remembered his friend as being a "priest of Jesus Christ."

A second memorial Mass is planned for Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph Church, Toms River, where Msgr. Flynn was pastor from 1996-2008.
