Burlington County

Burlington County Chapter of the Knights of Columbus is working with the Vineland Knights of Columbus in hosting a drive to benefit people in Ukraine Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 1620 Marne Highway, Hainesport. Non-perishable items being collected include noodles, rice, instant soup, instant oatmeal, nuts, cereal and energy bars. Personal items include tissues, bar soap, toothpaste, band-aids, disposable diapers, first-aid kits, pain relief medication, women’s hygiene products, medical tourniquet, underwear, socks and antibacterial wipes. Other needed items include blankets, sleeping bags, bookbags candles, crayons, pencils and coloring books. Items may also be purchased through the Amazon registry at amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/CW5G2OUMC43U. The Vineland Council will ship items to Poland and then to outside of Ukraine.

Court St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Riverton, is collecting baby items for First Way of Burlington County. Needed items include diapers, wipes, baby clothes, formula and toiletries. There is an urgent need for diapers sizes 4, 5 and 6. Items may be dropped off in the basement of Sacred Heart Church, Riverton.

First Way of Burlington, which assists pregnant women in need, is in need for three committed volunteers for Mondays from noon to 2p .m. For more information, call 609-284-7943.

Holy Eucharist St. Vincent de Paul Conference, Tabernacle, has a food pantry that operates by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Persons in need of assistance and reside in Chatsworth, Vincentown, Shamong, Tabernacle or Southampton can call the hotline 609-268-0005 and leave a message with name and number and type of assistance needed. A Society member will return the call within 24 hours. All information remains confidential.

Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, Bordentown, in association with KCKB Productions, will present a musical presentation by Bordentown native Kelly Briggs Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the church. He will present an array of music with messages of hope and inspiration along with some Broadway tunes. Guest Jesus Alfonso Gonzalez and the parish choir are expected to sing. Mary, Mother of the Church Parish Altar-Rosary Society and Dignity of Life, Bordentown, is hosting a blanket drive during the month of September. New lap blankets or throws will be given to homebound parishioners and for retired priests. Collection bins will be on the side of Holy Assumption Church, Roebling, and at the back of St. Mary Church, Bordentown.

Our Lady of Good Counsel PTA, Moorestown, will hold its fourth annual Golf Scramble Sept. 27 at the Golden Pheasant Golf Club, 141 Country Club Dr., Lumberton. Sacred Heart Parish, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Riverton, is collecting baby items for First Way of Burlington County. Needed items include diapers, especially sizes 4, 5 and 6wipes, baby clothes, formula, baby shampoo. Items may be dropped off in the bassinet in the side altar nearest the ramp.

Sacred Heart Parish, Mount Holly, will begin a six-week fall Bible Study Sept. 18. This will be Part 1 of a two-part study of the Psalms. The second part of the study will be offered in the spring. Participants will use “Psalms for All Season” by John F. Cragham for both parts. The book may be purchased directly from the publisher, Liturgical Press or through Amazon. A study guide by Catherine Upchurch for Part 1 and a study guide by Clifford M. Yeary for Part 2 can be purchased from Little Rock Scripture Study or through Amazon. Sessions will meet on Wednesday. Morning sessions will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and will be held in the parish house conference room. Evening sessions will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and will be held in the parish library. St. Isaac Jogues Parish, Marlton, will host “Walking With Purpose, The Modern Woman’s Guide to the Bible” starting in October. The program seeks to bring women into a deeper relationship with Jesus while also building fellowship with one another. St. David the King Food Pantry, Princeton Junction, continues to accept  non-perishable donations for the RISE food pantry in Hightstown. “Feed the Hungry” bags are available in the gathering space. St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square, will offer “The Bible and the Church Fathers,” a 12-session video study series from the St. Paul Center. The series explores the teachings of the early Church Fathers and their relevance to the understanding of Scripture and Tradition. Sessions will begin Sept. 12 and run every Thursday through Dec. 5. St. Paul Parish Bible Study, Princeton, will focus on the Book of Exodus during the fall. The program begins Sept. 11. St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish, Hamilton, will host a 24-week Bible study on Matthew’s Gospel. St. Raphael School Eighth Grade Class, Hamilton, will host a clothing drive Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school parking lot. The Catholic Community of Hopewell Valley will host a Women’s Bible Study on the following Sundays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the basement of St. Alphonsus Church, Hopewell: July 14 and 28; Aug. 25; Sept. 8 and 22. The Catholic Community of Hopewell Valley is hosting a "Hoodie & Reading Glasses" drive to benefit Trenton Area Soup Kitchen Sept. 21-29. Freehold Birthright, an organization that assists girls, women, families, during their pregnancy and after the baby is born, is in need of prolife volunteers. Each week 12 students/teens and two adults are needed each Saturday to make the lunches in St Leo the Great School cafeteria from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. one adult will deliver the sandwiches to Asbury Park and one adult will handle picking up the fixings for the lunches. St. Leo the Great Parish Bereavement Ministry, Lincroft, will host a six-week guided grief session for adults Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6. Sessions will be offered during the day at 11 a.m. or in the evening at 6 p.m. in the parish center, 50 Hurley’s Lane. The sessions provide a safe place for participants to share their experience with others who are grieving the loss of a loved one. St. Mark Parish, Sea Girt, is looking for English As A Second Language volunteers who can donate time to teach English to members of the parish’s Hispanic Ministry. The parish is partnering with Birthright of Red Bank’ s Respect Life Baby Bottle Drive that is being held Oct. 6. Participants are to take one bottle per family which are available in the bins at the church entrances. Bottles are to be filled with spare change and returned by Oct. 6. Birthright is a practical emergency pregnancy service.


St. Mark Social Concerns Program, Sea Girt, is resuming the Frozen Meals Program to benefit The Center in Asbury Park, a volunteer-based state non-profit organization that provides support services for people with HIV/AIDS and their caregiver. Food trays and lids may be picked up next to the kitchen refrigerator in Father Child Hall in the church basement. Once the trays are filled with food, labels with the contents and date of preparation should be placed on the lids. The trays may be placed in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator. Parish volunteers will deliver the meals to The Center for distribution. For questions, call 732-449-5656. The social concerns committee is also collecting travel-size toiletries including: soap; shampoo; toothpaste; toothbrushes; combs. Items will be delivered by volunteers to those in need in Asbury Park.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina Holy Name Society, Lavallette, and the Rev. Gebhard Braungart Council, Knights of Columbus, will co-sponsor a fall retreat Oct. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in St. Joseph by the Sea Retreat House, South Mantoloking. Presenter is Father John Bambrick, pastor of St. Aloysius Parish, Jackson. Participants will explore various forms of prayer; discuss ways to nurture spiritual maturity and personal holiness and how to keep faith during difficult and challenging times. St. Rose Parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference, Belmar, will host a Friends of the Poor Walk Sept. 28. Registration time is 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10. The two-mile walk around Silver Lake begins in the church parking lot. Walkers are urged to make a personal donation and all pledges will benefit the work of the conference to assist people in need. St. Rose Justice and Peace Ministry, Belmar, has announced its Fall Book Circle Series’ schedule. Online sessions will begin Sept. 11 and will meet on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. through Dec. 18. In-person sessions will meet Sept. 11-Dec. 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the convent, 610 6th Ave. Presented by Sister of St. Joseph Jeanette Weychert, the series will focus on two books: “Changed Heart, Changed World: The Transforming Freedom of Friendship with God” by Jesuit Father William A. Barry and “Trusting the Gold: Uncovering Your Natural Goodness” by Tara Brach, Ph.D. Registration is required. St. Mark Parish, Sea Girt, is looking for English As A Second Language volunteers who can donate time to teach English to members of the parish’s Hispanic Ministry. St. Mark Social Concerns Program, Sea Girt, is resuming the Frozen Meals Program to benefit The Center in Asbury Park, a volunteer-based state non-profit organization that provides support services for people with HIV/AIDS and their caregiver. Food trays and lids may be picked up next to the kitchen refrigerator in Father Child Hall in the church basement. Once the trays are filled with food, labels with the contents and date of preparation should be placed on the lids. The trays may be placed in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator. The social concerns committee is also collecting travel-size toiletries including: soap; shampoo; toothpaste; toothbrushes; combs. St. Pio of Pietrelcina Holy Name Society, Lavallette, and the Rev. Epiphany Parish, Brick, will hold a 10-week Evening Bible Study on “Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come,” part of the Great Adventure Bible series from Ascension Press. St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, New Egypt, operates a food pantry that is open every first and third Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon at 76 Evergreen Rd. The next pantry date is Sept. 18. Donations of the following items are needed: pasta sauces, peanut butter and jelly, canned meats, cereal, applesauce, ketchup, mayonnaise. Collection boxes are available at both worship sites as well as the parish office. For large quantities, contact parish office to arrange for drop-off.

St. John Parish, Food Pantry, Lakehurst, needs the following items: sugar-free jams, jellies, pancake syrup as well as regular canned fruit, canned coffee, tea bags, pasta sauce, pasta, hearty canned soups, canned white tuna and chicken, cereal, oatmeal. Food can be dropped in the blue bin in the church hall anytime the church is open. Foods that are frozen or need refrigeration should not be placed in the bin; perishables may be brought to the pantry Monday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m.

St. John Parish Respect Life Committee, Lakehurst, is hosting a drive to benefit Birthright and Open Door pregnancy centers. Items needed include: powder, lotion, shampoo, baby soap, diaper rash cream, Vaseline, wipes, baby towels, wash cloths and size large diapers. Items may be brought to the carriage container in the church hall.

St. Joseph by the Sea, Mantoloking, will hold a program on “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?” will be held Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The program will focus on the discernment process of change, whether it’s a job change, relationships or communities. St. Mary Parish, Barnegat, will   hold an 11-week Bible study on “James: Pearls for Wise living” beginning Sept. 12.
