Santa Maria Council, Knights of Columbus, Mount Holly, will host a “Theology on Tap” inspired event April 4 at 7 p.m. in Spellbound Brewery, Mount Holly. Deacon Jim Casa from Sacred Heart Parish will present “Lent, 2024? How was the experience? Really good … maybe , not so good.” The event is open to Catholic men ages 21 and over. There is no fee. St. Joseph Council, Knights of Columbus (Palmyra-Riverton) is offering scholarship money to students accepted to Holy Cross Preparatory Academy, Delran, in the fall of 2024. Applicants are open to graduating eighth grade students and students who had not previously applied. Scholarship money will be awarded to a limited number of applicants based on their responses to two essay questions, “What does your faith mean to you?” and “Why do you want to continue your education at a Catholic high school?” Applications must include; student name and signature; parent name and signature; home address; telephone number; email address; student’s parish; student’s current school; a list of the student’s extracurricular activities. St. Mary of the Lakes Parish Youth Group, Y.E.S., Medford, is participating in Operation Yellow Ribbon by collecting items for military personnel serving overseas. St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square, will host a presentation on “The Challenges and Dangers of Losing Our Religious Freedom in the United States” April 9 in Ferrante Hall of the parish center, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. Speaker will be Dr. R.J. Snell, director of the Center on the University and Intellectual Life at the Witherspoon Institute. Prior to his appointment at the Cetner, he was for many years a professor of philosophy at Eastern University and the Templeton Honors College. His research interests include the liberal arts, ethics, natural law theory, Thomas Aquinas, the Catholic Intellectual tradition and the work of Jesuit Father Bernard Lonergan.
Dr. Snell’s presentation will focus on how historically, the United States has enjoyed strong protections for religious freedom, and how Catholics have thrived even when regarded as a religious minority. But in recent times, religious freedom has been threatened and is not as secure as it once was. He will explore some of the history of religious freedom as well as present-day concerns and issues.
