Stories that can change our lives
June 11, 2024 at 10:39 a.m.
Just about every June, The Monitor brings readers stories of men who reach the milestone of Holy Orders for ministry in the Diocese of Trenton as priests or deacons.
This year, we continue that tradition and, in nearly 20 pages of photos and reporting, share the poignant moments in the Ordination Rite through which the lives of these 15 men are forever changed.
But the June issue and content on TrentonMonitor.com also bring readers stories surrounding the historic, moving and, yes, life-changing experience when the Diocese hosted the three-day visit of the Seton Route pilgrims as part of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage.
Other worthy and timely news that you won’t want to miss:
BISHOP’S HIGHLIGHTS: In addition to ordaining priests and deacons and accompanying the Seton Route pilgrims on the visit around the Diocese, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., had a full slate of events, including a week-long meeting with his Vincentian brothers; time spent with seminarians on retreat, and Mass with the Missionaries of Charity Sisters to mark a quarter century of their ministry in Asbury Park.
CHURCH: How will the Diocese celebrate the newly-proclaimed Holy Year? In the wake of a graduation speaker’s controversial comments, what does the Church really teach about women’s dignity and vocations? PLUS . . . Delve into the latest Synod report for the Catholic Church in the U.S. and follow new developments on the sainthood cause of Blessed Carlo Acutis.
DIOCESE: Remembering deacon and former Monitor editor Joseph Donadieu; A review of changes coming for the Diocese’s deacon formation program; Funding in store for repairs to historic buildings housing Mount Carmel Guild in Trenton, and bolstering the spiritual health of caregivers.
YOUNG CATHOLICS AND FAMILY LIFE: Young adults help those in need through Vincent’s Legacy; Annual NJ Catholic Youth Rally; High school baseball star sets example in faith life; Eagle Scout who helped his parish receives national scholarship; Teaching children how to pray.
LOCAL: Barnegat group honors Our Lady of Sorrows; Santacruzan gathers Filipino Catholics; Seeds of Service, Catholic Charities unite in Brick food pantry; Mount Holly students get hands-on STEM instruction with military; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School marks 100 years in Asbury Park; Local tour company fosters faith-based pilgrimages
